The interactive installation SUBA’s room, which was met with great interest in Novi Sad (project supported by Foundation Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture and the city of Novi Sad), will be showcased in Belgrade. The works of musician, composer and producer Mitar Subotić Suba will be celebrated in the alternative exhibition space Kula in Cetinjska 15.

The installation will be the accompanying program of the Kontakt music conference, showcase and festival from the 21st to 25th of March 2023.

As a producer and composer, Suba introduced a new sound to contemporary music of then-Yugoslavia, as to Brazil. With his creativity and works, he has left his mark on both countries, and his road to global success was tragically ceased in 1999 in Sao Paolo. Suba’s music was truly ahead of his time, as it directly corresponds with current musical movements, nearly three decades later. He worked with the most noted and important artists of Yugoslav music, such as Milan Mladenović, and many Brazilian artists, like Bebel Gilberto.

The installation is made up of a permeation of different formats in the space of Kula in Cetinjska 15, with an accompanying musical program, organized in Anti Shop Elektropionir, at the same address.

We are to be met with an exhibition, sound installation, panels, showcases of new editions, lectures, video installation projections, jam sessions, DJ Brka and Vladimir Ivković’s performances etc.

Within the exhibition, there will be:

  • The Dreambird sound installation (authors Mitar Subotić Suba and Goran Vejvoda);
  • A showcase of the new double vinyl Dreambird and the CD SUBA: NOVI SAD;
  • Panels, during which Suba’s close collaborators, musicians and music critics (local and global) will be speaking about him.Lectures about Suba’s music will be held by musicologist Milan Milojković and publisher/curator Vladimir Ivković. This exhibition, which contains photographs, documents, musical instruments and other artifacts from Suba’s life, was created by Foundation Mitar Subotić Suba’s production.

    The editors of this exhibition’s program are Vera Kopicl and Branka Parlić, the curator is Bosiljka Zirojević Lečić and the producers are Igor Lečić and Ivan Fece.
